Enhance Your Makeup with a Regular Skincare Routine

Enhance Your Makeup with a Regular Skincare Routine

Jul 31, 2017

Routines are part of our lives. Every morning, you take the time to do your makeup and hair so that you will look your best for the rest of the day. But your skincare routine at night is crucial for fresh, clean skin that enhances your makeup and gives you a healthy glow. Fortunately, building an effective skincare routine is easy, and the process doesn’t take long each night. Here are some tips to help get you started:

There are basically four steps in a good skincare routine: cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturizing. All of them are important to keep your skin at its healthiest. Removing all the old makeup, dirt, and environmental pollutants every night will help keep your pores open to prevent breakouts and give your skin that healthy glow.

Cleansing is the first step. Choose a cleanser that is formulated for your skin type – you’ll want an oil-free cleanser for oily skin, a moisturizing cleanser for dry skin, and an all-purpose cleanser for normal skin. A non-allergenic cleanser is important for sensitive skin, and mature skin should have a good moisturizing cleanser that is formulated for your needs. Apply cleanser in a circular motion, rinse, then pat dry.

After washing, there are two steps: exfoliating and toning. Exfoliators are important for removing deep-down dirt and dead skin cells that the cleanser could not reach. It is not usually necessary to exfoliate every day, but this varies by skin type. Consult a professional skincare expert to determine how often you need to exfoliate. As with cleansers, apply exfoliating creams in a circular motion, rinse, then pat dry. Toners are important for restoring your skin’s balance. For all skin types, avoid toners with alcohol, as these can dry your skin. Your toner should gently restore the pH balance of your skin while adding moisture. Apply evenly and allow your toner to dry before the next step.

Finally, moisturizing is a crucial skincare element for all skin types. People with oily skin sometimes avoid them, but it is water, not oil, in your skin that keeps it hydrated, firm, and healthy. Choose a moisturizer that is formulated for your skin type and use it regularly after washing to restore moisture.

In addition to these basics, you can add other products depending on your skincare needs. There are several effective serums on the market that infuse antioxidant vitamins and/or helpful anti-aging ingredients like Retinol. A professional skincare consultant can help guide you to products that will best benefit your skin.
