Summer Makeup Tips to Beat the Heat

It’s summer, and the heat is on. That’s great for swimming, beach vacations, and barbeques, but it’s not so great for makeup, which tends to melt in the summer heat. Summertime may mean a slight adjustment in your makeup routine, and here are a few tips from the pros to help keep everything in place.
Start with a primer. This might add a step, but a primer is a must to help keep makeup from running in the summer heat. Primers help your makeup last much longer than foundation alone.
Make your foundation work harder. Instead of separate products for moisture, UV protection, and coverage, find one that does all three jobs. A tinted moisturizer with sunscreen does triple duty and keeps layers to a minimum. Look for an SPF of at least 15.
Minimize the powder. When powder mixes with sweat, you get caking and melting. You can still use powder to soften the shine – just be sure to pat off the sweat with a paper towel first. For summer, you may want to switch from powder eyeshadows and blushes to creams, which are easier to apply and avoid that caked on look in the summer heat.
Go for the bronze. A good bronzer is the secret to glowing summer skin. Choose one with a hint of gold for warm color with a healthy glow.
Go waterproof. Choosing waterproof mascara and eyeliner is a must to beat the smudges. Look for other waterproof makeup products that also help beat the heat for your eyes, cheeks, and lips. Ask your esthetician to recommend waterproof makeup products that work for your skin type.
Gloss it up. Try using tinted lip gloss instead of lipstick during the summer. This helps keep your lips moisturized in the hot summer sun. Don’t forget to choose one with sun protection – UV rays can damage the skin on your lips, too.
