The holidays are over, spring is far in the distance, and you’re probably wrapped up in so many layers that you look like the Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man. Welcome to deep, dark midwinter when daylight and light hearts are in short supply. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to both lift your spirits and your look – jump into a current hair color trend.
Beginning with the dark side, there’s quite a bit going on this winter. Mocha brown is a great way to warm it up this winter. It helps soften just about any skin tone and is a great base for adding highlights when the warm weather finally does arrive. Already brunette but want something more low maintenance? Add a bit of caramel ore chestnut balayage to the mid-length area and the ends. It will grow out seamlessly but give you plenty of lift in the meantime. Feeling like you need to strike out and make a dark statement? Look for a chocolate mauve tone. The plum-colored undertones will have everyone doing a double take as you walk past.
Moving more toward the light, bronde is a big hit this winter. It offers the best of both worlds, light and dark, and you can use strategically placed highlights to really make it sparkle. Going even a bit lighter to an ash blonde tone lets you really light it up with platinum highlights framing your face. Want something with even more pop? Choose highlights in both caramel blonde and champagne to show off both your fire and the ice.
And let’s not forget that perennial staple, auburn. With a range of tones in this shade, there’s something for everyone. It will warm up just about any skin tone, too. Plus, it’s a great foil for any wardrobe from all black to jewel tones to winter white.
