Waxing Ready For Summer

May 12, 2016

Warm weather means wearing fewer clothes. Wearing fewer clothes means more exposed skin, and more exposed skin means that it’s probably time for a wax. Whether you’re a waxing novice or a seasoned pro, there are a few warm weather tips that will make your summer wax more successful.

First things first – waxing and sun exposure don’t mix. If you’re scheduled for a waxing appointment, whether it’s an eyebrow or a bikini wax, stay out of the sun before you go. Even just a couple of hours of exposure can make your skin too sensitive for waxing. The process of waxing removes more than just unwanted hair. It also acts as an exfoliant and removes part of the top layer of your skin. If that skin is already compromised by exposure to sun, it could actually tear when the wax is removed. Ouch.

After your waxing appointment, you should also avoid sun exposure for 24-48 hours. Your newly exposed skin is still quite fragile and will burn much more quickly than older skin that’s been exposed to the world for weeks. If you’re planning a beach or poolside getaway this summer, be sure to book your waxing appointment several days before you leave. Use a higher SPF sunscreen than you normally would, too, and be sure to keep properly hydrated. After sun exposure, consider using an after sun product to rehydrate and soothe waxed areas. Aloe vera gel and witch hazel are good alternatives.
