Summer Makeup Tips

Summer Makeup Tips

Jul 12, 2017

We all love summer – warm temperatures, sunny skies, beach vacations, time in the pool – but all those things can cause your makeup to run and make looking your best a challenge. Fortunately, the pros have some great tips for keeping your makeup in place while you have fun in the sun:

Sun protection is foremost whenever you are outdoors. Even on cloudy days, harsh UV rays can penetrate your skin and cause damage. Rather than apply sunscreen and foundation, combine the two and try a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen. Look for a product with an SPF of at least 30.

Use the same tip on your lips: instead of lipstick, use a tinted lip gloss with sun protection.

If you find that your makeup melts excessively, try a smoothing primer. Apply it evenly before putting on your makeup to keep things in place.

On your eyes, use cream shadows and liquid eye liners instead of powders, which will tend to cake and clump when sweating. Use waterproof mascara, or consider skipping mascara altogether and using false eyelashes – a light shade of brown will help them look more natural.

Use a cream or gel blush for your cheeks instead of powder. If you need to blot out some shine, dust translucent loose powder on those trouble spots. Blot regularly with oil-absorbing sheets to clear up the sweat. To keep the sweat at bay during hot outdoor activities, try running cool water on your hands and then across the back of your neck.

Finally, try switching up your makeup routine for the summer, especially when you expect to be outdoors for extended periods of time. Go lighter on everything and there will be less makeup to smear, but you’ll still look polished and finished.
