Yes, it’s the middle of winter, and yes, the days are still disturbingly short and grey. Even if you love winter, it can sometimes seem to last forever. A great cure for the never-ending season is to dream about the warm weather and fashion updates that sooner or later will be coming our way. Let’s begin with a peek at some of the hairstyles that will be trending before you know it.

This year will be a mix of fancy-free as well as no nonsense styles. Take your pick or trade them off as you see fit. One of the more structured looks will be the wet head. Yes, you read that correctly. Slicked back like Elvis can be a great foil for uber sexy outfits, and you can wear it either up or down. You can also slick back just the top leaving the ends looser. This works well with the half up, half down looks we’ve been seeing. For a really daring switch, slather on some bright temporary dye after you slick it down.

We’ll be seeing lots of braids this year, too. Some of them will be loose and romantic, some of them will be close to the scalp leading up to and around a high bun, and some will be tiny baby braids half hidden behind an ear wrapped in colorful cotton and beads. There will be just about everything in between, too. You’re limited only by your imagination.

Bangs of all sorts will also be on display. Shaggy bobs in a variety of lengths with equally shaggy fringe will bring a surfer vibe to the season. Short, blunt bangs will add a graphic element to more classic styles and will emphasize the eyes. And a classic blunt bob with equally blunt fringe hitting just below the eyebrows will conjure up an art deco look.
