Every season has its makeup musts that are usually riffs on those looks you saw on the fashion runways months ago. Sometimes they’re easy to do on your own, and sometimes not so much. This fall the news is all good. The trend is to pick one feature – usually eyes or lips – and play it up while keeping the rest of your makeup neutral or even naked.
For eyes, lashes are big, in more ways than one. Whether you opt for false lashes or extensions or old-fashioned multi-coated mascara, you can go for feathery or clumpy, tops only or fully ensconced eyes. The key is to make your eyes the center of attention while keeping the rest of your makeup at a minimum.
There’s an upgrade on the black smoky this fall, too. Make the transition to a jewel-tone smoky eye by using blue, emerald and indigo rather than charcoal and black shades. Brown eyes look great in copper shadow with a touch of shimmer in the center of your upper lid. For a night out, consider using full on glitter in a swipe across your upper lid.
Want to highlight your lips instead? The good news is that lip-gloss is back, minus the goopy mess it used to have. Another option is a sparkly red lipstick shade with a neutral look for the rest of your face. Nearly naked faces also look great with any bright lip color, or go for a monotone effect instead by using the same peachy or pinkish shade on lips, cheeks and lids.
