Thanks to some carefully chosen extensions, you’ve got exactly the look you want for summer. Now the question is how to keep them looking their best throughout the long, sunny days as well as the hot steamy nights ahead. Here are a few things you can do to help prolong your look this season.
The biggest issue for extensions is tangling, and when you’re spending more time than usual outside, that can really spell disaster. Be sure to brush your extensions every day with your specialty extension brush, and hold the bond or tape against your scalp for good measure. Leave-in conditioners are great to help prevent tangles too. Just keep it clear of the root end of your hair. The bonds or tapes used to apply your extensions are the big issue here, and each type has its own considerations.
For bonded extensions, beware of water. While it’s ok to take a swim, it’s not ok to let your extensions soak in water for very long. Be sure to dry them as soon as you’re back on dry land. Just rough dry the bonded areas with a towel and let the rest of your hair dry naturally. To avoid tangling, opt for a loose braid or a low bun while swimming, but no ponytails. They put too much pressure on the keratin bonds.
For tape-in extensions, the culprits are your sunscreen and skin care products. Avoid getting them anywhere near your hairline, and wash your hands immediately after applying them. This will cut down on the likelihood of transferring them to your tapes.
